Spring, with its vibrant blooms and every changing landscapes, is the perfect time to experience the magic of this region. Whether you're a seasoned camper or a first-time adventurer, there's a wealth of activities to make your spring getaway unforgettable.

  • Spring Spectacle: The waterfalls come alive in spring! The increased rainfall and melting snow create powerful cascades, and the surrounding foliage begins to unfurl, adding vibrant greens to the scenery. The trail itself becomes a fragrant wonderland, carpeted with swathes of wild garlic.


  • Camping Tip: Pack your waterproofs! The trails can get muddy after rainfall, so sturdy footwear is a must. Enjoy a picnic lunch by the falls, soaking in the invigorating sounds of rushing water and the intoxicating aroma of wild garlic. Don't forget your binoculars to spot the diverse birdlife!




Immerse Yourself in a Sea of Bluebells: Visit Oxenber Woods


  • Spring Awakening: Experience the magic of Oxenber Woods in spring, when the forest floor transforms into a breath taking carpet of bluebells. It doesn't last long so grab your chance before it's too late and if you're lucky you might spot some wild orchids too.


  • Camping Tip: Peak bluebell season (usually late April or early May) and start your hike from Austwick, following the beautiful Yorkshire stone walls paths that wind through the woods.

    • Stop for a quick cake and coffee at Elaine's Cafe for a well-deserved treat.

    • Indulge in a hearty lunch at the renowned Game Cock Inn.

    • For a longer adventure, consider exploring the Norber Erratics, a fascinating geological site featuring glacial boulders scattered across the landscape.

Discover Hidden Gems: Springtime Exploration

  • Spring Blooms: From Meadow Falls Gate you can embark on many short hikes to discover hidden valleys, woods, and scenic viewpoints. The spring landscape is bursting with life, with wildflowers blooming everywhere. Keep an eye out for adorable baby lambs frolicking in the surrounding fields, graceful deer grazing nearby, and a variety of nesting birds adding their melodious songs to the spring chorus.


  • Camping Tip: Pack a lightweight backpack and set off on a shorter, less strenuous hike. We have a few secret locations that remain relatively undisturbed, offering truly magical encounters with nature. If you're curious, feel free to ask a local for a discreet recommendation.

Stargazing Adventures: Clear Spring Skies

  • Spring Stargazing: Spring nights offer some of the clearest skies of the year, making it the perfect time for stargazing. Enjoy early sunsets, spectacular fiery skies, and breathtaking views of the Milky Way.


  • Camping Tip: We'll find you a pitch with an unobstructed view of the night sky. Wake up early to witness the sunrise over Ingleborough, a truly unforgettable experience.

Enjoy the Local Culture: Springtime Events

  • Spring Festivals: Check local listings (thisisingleton.co.uk events page has some great details) for spring events, such as the vibrant Kirkby Lonsdale Thursday Market, the bustling Settle Market on Tuesdays, and various outdoor festivals celebrating the arrival of spring.


  • Camping Tip: Team your visit with a trip to one of the many Yorkshire Dales charming pubs, cafes and farm shops serving delicious food and a wide selection of locally brewed ales. A couple of our favourites


Test Your Limits: The Fellsman Hike

Are you up for the challenge?

  • For the ultimate spring challenge, consider participating in the renowned Fellsman Hike. This gruelling 62-mile endurance race starts in Ingleton on April 26th and traverses the Yorkshire Dales, offering breath taking scenery and a true test of physical and mental fortitude. While most participants are seasoned athletes, the event also attracts significant number of charity runners.


  • Camping tip: This one is not for me, but it's great spectacle to witness the camaraderie and determination of the runners as they embark on their challenging journey. If you're not a seasoned runner, why not give the athletes some encouragement on their path.



Explore the Depths of Gaping Gill: A Thrilling Spring Adventure

  • Calling all thrill-seekers! If you're looking for an unforgettable experience during your spring camping trip to Ingleton, consider participating in the Gaping Gill Winch Meet, held between May 24th and 30th, 2025. This unique event allows you to descend 400 feet (122 meters) underground into the awe-inspiring Gaping Gill, the largest cave chamber in Britain and boosts the UK's longest unbroken waterfall. Tickets are £20 per person and are purchased on the day at Gaping Gill itself.


  • Camping tip: Arrive early to avoid disappointment, as descents are made in the order received. Be sure to dress warmly in waterproof clothing, gloves, and sturdy footwear suitable for underground exploration. Helmets are provided. You don't need caving experience to enter, this is open to all as there's plenty to see in the vast chamber, and wow what a waterfall!

  • No booking required. Make your way along the trail and find nature-inspired activities for the whole family. The trail takes place between 18 - 21 April 2025, from 10am to 4pm, so come along and explore the beautiful parkland of Sizergh. Prices are £3.50 per trail which includes an Easter trail sheet, bunny ears and dairy or vegan and Free From* chocolate egg.
